VOICE
A microphone that behaves like a keyboard.
Held, not toggled
The key opens the microphone and releasing it closes the microphone, the way a walkie-talkie works. Nothing is left listening because you forgot a second click. Click the button instead when you want it latched open for a long passage.
Into the document, not into a box
The words appear where the caret is, correcting themselves in place as the phrase settles. There is no transcript panel to review and paste from — you are watching the sentence land where it is going to live.
Speak over a selection to replace it
Select a clumsy sentence, say a better one, and the new one takes its place. Dictation behaves like the keyboard it is standing in for, so the habits you already have still work.
Everyone watches it arrive
Spoken words travel the same path typed ones do, so a collaborator sees them appear in real time under your cursor. Dictation is not a private mode you come back from.
